Connecticut River
Eagle Festival
Essex, Chester,
Deep River & East Haddam,
February 16 & 17,
2008
Come on up to the mouth of the
CT River in the towns of Essex, Chester, Deep River, East Haddam,
Old Saybrook, and Old Lyme, CT., where the River Meets the Long
Island Sound, and observe Eagles like you have never seen before.
Every year, nearly 100 American
Bald Eagles and Golden Eagles converge along the 10 -15 mile
stretch of the connecticut River where it empties into the Long
Island Sound. Dozens of Eagle Spotters will be positioned at
stations along the CT River, with very powerful spotting scopes.
Visit any of these locations, to spot and observe one or more
wild Eagles. Who knows, you might even see a floating piece of
ice in the river, with several eagles on it, looking for fish
around the edges. Of course, the Eagles are always here every
day of the year, but the resident Eagles are less than 15. It
is during the coldest 3 winter months, that as many as 100 additional
Eagles migrate here from all over New England and Canada. This
particular weekend is really well organized to invite over 5,000
people to the area to really enjoy one of nature's rarest seen
birds of prey, and National Symbol.
